Thank you to everyone who came in for our Celebrations Around the World workshops!
During November and December, every class in New Oak hosted a special festive celebratory event, where we invited parents to join us in the academy to focus on different festive celebrations around the world.
Acorn Class focused on the universal key aspects of many global celebrations such as decorations, music and the giving of gifts and cards. Everybody made Christmas cards and was invited to dress up in a celebratory outfit from their culture. As we made the cards and the event progressed, everybody taught each other about their family’s traditions. It was lovely seeing all the different cultures of Acorn Class come together.
Willow Class focused on the celebratory traditions of India. They performed a Bollywood-inspired dance and had a henna workshop. The children drew some fantastic patterns and wrote the names of people they love.
Oak Class had a great time in their Loy Krathong festive workshop. Loy Krathong is a Thai festival centred around thanking the Goddess of Water and River (Goddess Khongkha) and Buddha.
In the workshop, everybody made their own ‘krathong’ out of paper. A ‘krathong’ is a container traditionally designed to float down the river at the festival and is made out of flowers and leaves.
The other classes focused on how we traditionally celebrate Christmas in the UK. This included making a variety of Christmas decorations such as baubles, Christmas tree gonks and paper wobbly snowmen. They also made their own personalised, pop-up Christmas cards.
Other festivities included baking festive treats, decorating the classroom Christmas trees and biscuit decorating.
We'd like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who came in and helped make the environment of each workshop so warm, friendly and enjoyable. The pupils and staff had an amazing time and we hope you did too. We can’t wait until the next time we host everyone!
