Homework provides an opportunity to consolidate class learning and is as an important step in developing independent learning skills. As the number, length and complexity of homework set increase as students get older they also learn to manage their time effectively in preparation for secondary school.
Reading regularly at home is an integral part of the homework set at Oasis Academy New Oak and we encourage all students to read every day. Research has shown that children who are read to and who read for pleasure make more progress than those who don’t. According to the Literacy Trust (2006), this is because they develop the following literacy-related benefits:
- Breadth of vocabulary
- Text comprehension and grammar
- Writing skills
- Greater confidence
Homework at Oasis Academy New Oak is set on Wednesdays for return the following Monday. For more information about homework please click on the links below.
We also have introduced homework projects this year which are projects where children can explore topics linked to their learning in school. The idea is that we will give children ideas of what to do and then children have the whole half term to do a project at home with the family. We will then celebrate these projects in school.
